When the Samaritan woman at the well suspected that Jesus was a prophet, she quit
talking about well-water and immediately brought up the debate about where “men ought
to worship” God, saying, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped
in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought
to worship” (John 4:20). Jesus responded to her not only about “where” is the proper
